Do my job and go home.
Daily writing prompt
What is your career plan?

I want to practice writing like a real person, so I’ll answer. The job market feels unstable right now, and my main goal is to keep my job and avoid termination. That’s my focus; I don’t plan to go above and beyond.

I want to be seen as reliable and consistent in my career.  My lifestyle influences this decision; I don’t want to overextend myself at work and sacrifice my time with the people who matter to me at home. Although this approach may slow my career growth, I plan to reevaluate everything once the situation settles down.

I also consider the challenges related to technology. To stay ahead at work, I need to keep up with technology, learn new processes, and apply them quickly. However, the current technological transitions, especially with AI, present ethical issues. Technology currently occupies a dubious space; learning everything and applying it immediately may not be the best idea. I often think about possible legal outcomes and ethical concerns when adding certain processes into workflows too quickly. Until we reach a consensus under government regulation and social expectations on the best practices, applying these technologies could add risks related to our career fields.

Anyways, that’s my goal and career plan. The current job market and economy don’t feel stable enough for me to try to stand out or go above and beyond. Additionally, technology occupies a gray ethical area. Unlike in the past, when keeping up and learning to apply new tech sufficed, today’s processes and tools require careful consideration of their long-term implications before real-world application.
