Bloganuary Isn’t Returning in 2026, So I’m Creating My Own Writing Path

What is something others do that sparks your admiration?

When people organize community events, I adore it. For example, WordPress ran a month-long challenge called Bloganuary a couple of years back, and that was a really fun event. During Bloganuary, bloggers take on the challenge of writing every day for the entire month of January.

Why Bloganuary Was Such a Great Event

When WordPress officially hosted Bloganuary, there was a community blog and daily prompts to help you get your writing habit started. It was also a good way to find new blogs and be part of a community. For many of us, it became a highlight of the new year.

WordPress Confirms Bloganuary 2026 Won’t Happen

Anyway, I reached out to WordPress to ask if Bloganuary is happening next year, and I received confirmation that WordPress will not be hosting Bloganuary 2026. They have no plans to bring back an official challenge for the next year. Which is sad.

The dashboard seems to have enough daily prompts to work as challenge prompts for the January writing challenges. It’s unfortunate because I’ve noticed that a lot of those prompts that appear in the dashboard often repeat. I’ve already answered the same questions a few times, which takes away from the fun of a monthly creative challenge.

Will I Create My Own January Writing Challenge?

Thus, it is likely that I will create my own challenge. The key word is “likely” . Solo challenges never feel quite the same. Part of the joy of Bloganuary is the community hyping up each other by reading posts, discovering new blogs, and feeling accountable alongside everyone else.

A Possible Silver Lining

Regardless, this might be a blessing in disguise. Telling me that I should just chill out and enjoy next year. See what other people are writing about without having to worry about what to write for the daily prompt. Sometimes taking a break from challenges allows for time to explore your own creativity in a direction that cannot be curated by a simple prompt. Without the structure of a large event, there is a bit more room to write at my own pace, try new ideas, and enjoy the creative rhythm of the new year.
