Watching old shows

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “stop me if you’ve heard this one.” Write whatever comes to mind when you think of the prompt.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Dec. 7, 2024

Remind me if you have heard this, but watching old TV shows is fun and relaxing. I love diving into series that I missed out on when they first aired, especially since they sometimes had so much hype surrounding them.

There’s something magical about revisiting these shows when the excitement has settled. During their original run, I often found the fandom buzz a bit overwhelming, as it could overshadow the true essence of what the writers intended. The discussions and speculations can be vibrant, yet they also might distract from enjoying the story itself.

I recently jumped into “Lost,” the classic from 2004, and I must say, what a journey! Even years after it ended, the buzz around “Lost” hasn’t faded, and I was intrigued by the idea that the plot could be so intricate that you might just get lost trying to follow it. Now that it’s available on Netflix, I decided to give it a shot, and wow, I’m pleasantly surprised! I’m really enjoying the twists and turns that the characters go through.

Sure, it’s a bit of an adjustment to see characters do things that were once socially acceptable but might not be viewed the same way today. Yet, I find it fascinating how the show’s protagonists are steeped in moral ambiguity, which keeps things intriguing. It’s nice to watch with today’s perspectives in mind, adding another layer to the viewing experience!

I’ve just started season 6, so the adventure continues! I’m excited to see where it leads, but so far, I’m truly entertained and grateful for this opportunity to enjoy such a well-crafted show. Here’s to more joyful moments with old favorites!

I too have a few old shows and movies I would love to revisit. “Misery” with Kathy Bates is #1.
