My Journey into Personal Blogging One Prompt at a Time

Yes, I’ve been writing on this blog for a while now. When I started, I really had a hard time trying to figure out what to do with this blog. All the advice online said to pick a niche and stick to it. But the reason I started liking blogs and reading them was for the written word of people and how they shared their interests and lifestyles. I can always watch a video on any streaming service. However, for those who enjoy reading, there’s something particular about reading essays. Lifestyle posts, gallery/art posts, and stories also hold a special charm. So at the beginning I told myself I wouldn’t focus on a niche; I would just write about my interests.

At the time I didn’t know what a personal blog was, so I just told myself I would just have a blog to practice my writing. I lacked practice anyway and needed to just start instead of over analyzing. And wow, I found myself really liking the journey of figuring out my topic and exploring other blog posts. I really love the prompt challenges. Not only do they allow me to join in a writing community and read other writers’ stories and responses to the prompt, but they also allow me to not think too much about what I want to write about.

I’m not a very confident writer. I always second-guess a word and choice of phrase. I also tend to overthink how other people might understand a concept. I’ve had to give myself a limit or draw a line on when and how far I look into and edit my writing. Oftentimes I tell myself that I will make all the changes I need within a certain time limit. It varies from a week to maybe 30 minutes before I post, but that is it. A week is the most that I will give myself to edit a post. Any longer and I end up not posting or writing anything at all.

I hope to get around to writing more fictional stories soon. I work well when I’m taking part in a challenge, so I might do one of the November writing challenges next month. Furthermore, I’ll be gentle with myself and refrain from writing a novel; instead, I might work on short, micro, and flash fiction. In any case, I’m having fun writing on this blog and am eager to participate in the personal blogging community.

I’m not into the niche thing either…I would definitely run out of things to say lol. Even writing about what comes to mind, I sometimes have nothing to say.

It takes me a long time to figure out what to write too. If I have nothing to say I don’t post. 😆
