One of the things that I want to get through this year is getting more sleep. Last year, so many things happened that I had to be on high alert. Among them was personal finance stress looking for a new job and keeping that job, all while worrying about my kids. Fearing that my efforts and time spent trying to improve our financial situation was stealing from them the time they needed from me to be their parent. This led to the loss of sleep and my mental and physical health deterioration. I gained 20 lbs, and I had to accept that I didn’t have time for hobbies as much.
I’m hoping that setting good sleep habits will help me a lot.
The 80-20 rule, also known as the Pareto Principle, is a familiar saying that asserts that 80% of outcomes (or outputs) result from 20% of all causes (or inputs) for any given event.

While I don’t believe this “rule” applies to everything, it doesn’t hurt to try and think that other aspects of my life will improve by getting more sleep. Namely, stress from work and figuring out how to spend more time with my family and participate and hobbies again. So let’s see how this year goes.
